Photo Scanning Services
San Francisco Bay Area photo scanning services to digital format.
You have the choice of two resolutions for having your photos scanned to digital format, either 300 PPI or 600 PPI. Either option is a high-resolution scan that yields beautiful digital images and reprinting up to the size of the original photograph; 300 PPI is most common. If you plan on having prints made larger than the original size, then 600 PPI is advised. Please speak with one of our technicians if you are unclear about what resolution may be best.

Scarpbooks/Photo Albums
Digital Roots Studio can scan photo albums & scrapbooks but it is on a case by case basis, please call to speak about your photo albums/scrapbooks to see if Digital Roots Studio is able to work with you. Important info to know is the size of the photo album pages, do you want full page scans of each photo album page or individual digital images of each photograph in the album. Photographs falling out of the photo album will be scanned at the end of the scanning of the photo album. We don’t glue items back into photo album.
Two Photo Scanning Options: Raw Scan & Pro Scan
-
Raw Scan Example - Photograph
Raw scan output for photographs, or untouched for photographs are your two options. Raw scan is when you receive the digital image back without any post production work done on the digital image. Raw scan of photographs is suggested for clients who have experience using photo editing applications like Photoshop, and would like to do their own post production on the photo digital images, or who simply want the image backed-up for preservation.
-
Pro Scan Example - Photograph
Pro scan option with photo scanning to digital will include a folder with the raw photo digital files and a final image folder with the pro scan digital images. Pro scan for scanning photographs to digital includes cropping the photo image border, photo rotation, and color correction of the digital images. This provides a view-ready collection of digital photos without any additional efforts on your part.
Scanning Resolutions
You have the choice between two resolutions when scanning your loose photographs and photo albums, either 300 PPI or 600 PPI. Both options give a high-resolution scan that yields beautiful digital images and allows reprinting up to the size of the original photograph. If you plan on having prints made larger than the original size, then 600 PPI is advised. Please call if you need your photos scanned at a higher resolution than 600 ppi.

“For something as important as archiving cherished memories, sometimes it's better to work with a small, local company that provides a personal touch and personalized customer service.
We used DRS to archive our collection of printed journals and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.”

Its not possible to know without counting every photography you want to have scanned. But one thing you can do to get a rough estimate, is to stack the photos and measure the stack. About one inch of photos is 100-110 photos. Obviously this fluctuates based on the thickness of the physical photograph, but it will give you a ballpark idea.

“They were able to provide a truly amazing slide show for a life celebration that my whole family was thoroughly impressed by. Everyone was asking for their info as we all have memories that we need to have archived to pass on to our next generations. I couldn't recommend them any higher!”
— Andre B. Dublin, CA
“Sean and Andrea were great to work with. They took my old VHS cassette tapes, digitized them, and uploaded the mp4 video files to a secure server. Communication was excellent, price was fair and I'll certainly be back again. Thanks!”
— Robyn H. Oakland, CA
“They transferred 8mm film and a few old prints to digital video format and jpeg format. Unlike many similar online services, this business does all transfer work in house. So there's less risk of your precious family analog memories getting lost in transit.”
