Two Scanning Options: Raw Scan or Pro Scan
-
Raw Scan Example - Negative
Raw scan output, or untouched, is when you receive the image back without any post production work done on the image. Raw scan is suggested for clients who have experience using photo editing applications like Photoshop, and would like to do their own post production on the photo, or who simply want the image backed-up for preservation.
-
Pro Scan Example - Negative
With pro scan you will get a folder with the touched raw images, in addition to a folder that has all the final images that have had post production work. Pro scan includes cropping the image border, photo rotation, and color correction. This provides a view-ready collection without any additional efforts on your part.
Scanning Resolutions
You have the choice between two resolutions for 35mm slides & negatives, 2000 PPI & 4000 PPI. If you plan on having a print 8” x 10” or smaller made, or simply enjoying the transferred materials digitally, we recommend 2000 PPI. If your print size will be larger than 8” x 10”, we recommend 4000. Medium format negatives can be scanning at 1000 PPI or 2000 PPI, and large format negatives can be scanned at 600 PPI or 1000 PPI.
WE DO NOT OFFER SELECT FRAME SELECTION
Digital Ice Technology
Digital ICE is applied to all color 35mm slides and negatives. Digital Ice works by building a record of defects in the image during scanning. Scanners normally work with three input channels - red, green, & blue. Scanners equipped with Digital ICE add a fourth channel called the D channel (defect channel). During scanning, the information on defects, surface dirt, and scratches is collected. Digital ICE then applies a series of algorithms (formulas) to rebuild the missing information. The result is scans that are scratch free and dust free even if the original film has serious defects. Digital Ice DOES NOT work on black & white negatives, so scratches along with surface marks will appear if present on physical slide/negative.

“They were able to provide a truly amazing slide show for a life celebration that my whole family was thoroughly impressed by. Everyone was asking for their info as we all have memories that we need to have archived to pass on to our next generations. I couldn't recommend them any higher!”
— Andre B. Dublin, CA
“Sean and Andrea were great to work with. They took my old VHS cassette tapes, digitized them, and uploaded the mp4 video files to a secure server. Communication was excellent, price was fair and I'll certainly be back again. Thanks!”
— Robyn H. Oakland, CA
“They transferred 8mm film and a few old prints to digital video format and jpeg format. Unlike many similar online services, this business does all transfer work in house. So there's less risk of your precious family analog memories getting lost in transit.”
— Timothy M. North Berkeley, CA
