Playable DVD
- Can be played on DVD player or on your computer
- Not meant for editing
- 2 hours of footage max per playable DVD
- Chapter points every 5 minutes
- HDV footage needs to be put on Blu-ray to maintain HD resolution
- 10 hrs of Standard Definition video can go on a Blu-ray disc
Editable Computer Files - AVI, MOV or MP4
- Your choice of MOV (Mac), AVI (PC) or MP4 (PC/Mac/internet-ready)
- AVI & MOV files are approximately 14gb per hr
- MP4 files are approximately 1.5 gb per hr
- We suggest that drives are empty & formatted NTFS or ExFat. FAT32 & Mac backup drives will not work.
- If your hard drive is not empty, Digital Roots Studio is not responsible for any files that may be compromised.
- You will supply your drive, or you can purchase a 64GB thumb drive for $30 or 1TB external drive for $85.
- MP4 can be uploaded to Dropbox for an additional $5 per hour of footage. All customer files will be deleted two weeks from invoice date. We do not upload AVI or MOV b/c of the size of files.
Organization
If you would like to have your video tapes transferred in a certain order then please number them ahead of time, or put them in the order you would like & then we will put a number on each tape in the order you request. We will not go through all of your materials to figure out the chronological order, this must be done by you ahead of time.
Additional info on hard drives
If the hard drive is not empty, Digital Roots Studio is not responsible for any files that may be compromised. Your hard drive must be formatted NTFS or ExFat; there is no charge for us to do this for you. We recommend a drive that is both PC & Mac (ExFat) compatible without having to format it. Thumb drives with the necessary space available are fine to use for still images. We do not recommend thumb drives for long term storage of video files.

Our Process
All video tape transfers are done in-house with care and attention. Your video cassette tapes are transferred using professional video equipment connected to our analog to digital converters that are connected into our dedicated PCs.
Once your tapes have been captured into our computer system, we will then output the video to the desired format. For simply watching the footage on a DVD player we would give you a playable DVD (not for editing), or if you wanted to edit the video footage, upload or just store away for archiving purposes, then you would want an MOV, AVI or MP4 file.
